Average Chicago freshman misses nearly a month of school

ABC TV Chicago reports:
A University of Chicago study indicates that the average freshman in Chicago's public schools misses nearly 20 days of class in that critical first year.

The study also found that those students log more than two failing semester grades.

School CEO Arne Duncan calls missing 19-point-6 of a total 180 days of school "a recipe for disaster."

Duncan says he personally plans to go door-to-door in September to visit the homes of freshmen who miss their first week of class. He adds that school officials are offering a long list of attendance incentives to students, including a free car.
No word yet from the "let's fully fund education crowd".Also,no word yet from those who claim "white families are moving back to the city and sending their kids to public schools".
