Obama Outlines Plan To Combat Urban Poverty

CBS TV Chicago reports on Comrade Obama's ambitious plans:
Obama promised that if elected President, he would replicate the Harlem Children’s Zone in 20 cities across the country. The Harlem Children’s Zone is an organization that helps children and families in some of New York’s most devastated neighborhoods. Obama highlighted the Zone’s “Baby College” where expectant parents receive counseling on caring for newborns.

Part two of Obama’s plan would provide families with support to raise children. He’s promising more financial support for fathers and nursing help for low-income mothers and mothers-to-be.

Obama is also guaranteeing help for workers. He says he will invest $1 billion in transitional jobs programs, work with community organizations and businesses to create career paths that give workers skills and training to make more money, and make sure public transportation is available and affordable for low-income workers.

The fourth part of Obama’s plan focuses on bringing businesses back to inner cities by, for example, providing more loans to small businesses.

Finally, Obama says he wants to make safe, affordable housing more accessible. He says he’ll create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that would add 112,000 new units in mixed income neighborhoods.

Obama says he’ll appoint an Urban Policy director to implement these programs.
No word yet on whether developer Tony Rezko will help Obama in his plans.
