Gov. Rod Blagojevich went to church Sunday to castigate fellow Democrats who have repeatedly rejected his top priorities for a new budget, contending he and lawmakers are "engaged in a monumental disagreement."Comrade Blagojevich has never heard of "thou shall not steal",even by majority vote.No word yet from liberals who call for a separation of church and state.
A day after House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) asked Blagojevich to turn down the rhetoric, the governor turned it up higher and renewed his effort to cast the budget fight in biblical terms. He called the budget a "moral document" and told the mostly African-American congregation at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church that access to health care is a "fundamental, God-given right."
"We are fighting to live the Golden Rule, to do unto others as we would have others do unto you," Blagojevich said.
But Blagojevich made an exception to the rule for Madigan, chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party.
Blagojevich, without mentioning the speaker by name, stood before churchgoers to say the party's leader had "betrayed" party values by not going along with the governor's plans to fund education and a far-reaching plan for state-subsidized health care.
