Ex-IRS clerk sentenced to 5 years for theft

The Boston Globe reports:
A former Internal Revenue Service clerk who went on a nationwide shoplifting spree at Home Depot stores from Maine to Texas was sentenced in US District Court Tuesday to five years in prison. Robert P. Dooley, 47, of Salem, was also ordered to pay $335,665 in restitution to The Home Depot. Between 2003 and 2005, authorities said, he made some 470 trips to Home Depot stores, where he filled his cart with merchandise -- including floor tiles, casement windows, and sliding doors -- then bypassed the cashier without paying. Instead, he went straight to the customer service counter to return the goods for a refund, according to the US attorney's office.
Imagine that.
