Data breach at UC Davis

The Sacramento Bee reports:
A computer hacker has gained access to all of the 2007-08 student application files for the UC Davis veterinary school, university officials said Wednesday.

The hacker uncovered 1,100 students' names, birth dates and Social Security numbers.

The breach was discovered when applicants who had recently been admitted to the University of California, Davis graduate School of Veterinary Medicine tried to set up campus computer accounts and were notified that the accounts had already been established.
If we ever get nationalized health care these stories will become even more common. Thanks to Darren Miller at RightOntheLeftCoast for this one.
