SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A state senator is furious over what he calls unethical threats by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vitch).Democrats say the most amazing things sometimes.
Senator Mike Jacobs says he nearly came to blows with the governor during a disagreement over health care.
Blagojevich was desperate to win his vote for a plan to guarantee health insurance for everyone in the state. Jacobs says that when he wouldn't agree, the governor threatened to do everything possible to throw him out of office.
Jacobs says Blagojevich promised to find candidates to run against him, urge unions to oppose him and even take money away from state universities in his district.
The East Moline Democrat says if Blagojevich had talked to him that way at a tavern, he would have "kicked his tail-end."
The governor's office says Jacobs wanted a $$75 million project in his district before voting for the health care plan, but Blagojevich wouldn't agree.
