A WORD ON WORD MEANINGS
It has come to our attention in light of the horrors visited on the campus of Virginia tech Monday, that most, if not all, of the news media and punditry don’t know what in the hell they’re talking about.
Case in point: the word “tragedy.”
To many, if not all, in the news media and pundit class, the murderous rampage of a warped, sick, and evil human being can be classified as a “tragedy.”
Poppycock.
Cho Sueng-Hui was not a tragic figure…Cho Sueng-Hui was a murderer. The murders he committed were not tragedies, they were heinous and evil attacks. It was a slaughter. There was no revelation, no redemption, and no lesson learned, unless Mr. Sueng-Hui came to realize the error of his ways the moment before he blew his sick and twisted brain to little, tiny bits. Alas, we will never know because he is, thankfully, dead.
It harkens back to the times following the attacks on the World Trade Center. To the media, those too were tragedies.
Poppycock.
The events of 9/11 were vicious, heinous murders carried out by warped, twisted, and evil people, people just like Cho Seung-Hui. The only lesson to be learned was that evil people do evil things and that it is better to stop or, better still, kill them before they can carry out their evil plans.
So to you, dear media members and pundits, please take this into consideration so as to limit the amount of putrid bile you spew on a daily basis.
Thanks, in advance, for your cooperation!
Sincerely,
The Omniscient Committee for Words and Their Meanings
