Renters trying to hunt down an affordable Silicon Valley apartment may not believe it, but for the first time in several years, metropolitan San Jose is not among the country's top 10 most expensive places to rent, according to a study released Tuesday. Some places just don't want a middle class.
But it is No. 11. A renter would need to make $24.69 an hour, or more than $51,000 a year, to afford the rent for a basic two-bedroom apartment in the San Jose area, an annual survey from the National Low Income Housing Coalition found. Minimum wage in California is $6.75 an hour.
