More Chicago Cops to be charged with corruption today

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Prosecutors will bring criminal charges against more Chicago Police officers today as part of an ongoing probe of corruption on the force, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Those to be charged today include a female officer who had -- like four officers already charged in the probe -- been a member of the Chicago Police Department's Special Operations Section, an elite group that seizes guns and drugs citywide in crime hot spots.

Spokesmen for the police and the Cook County state's attorney's office declined to comment.

In September, a yearlong probe became public when four SOS officers were charged with a long list of felonies, including armed violence, home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, delivery of narcotics, burglary and official misconduct. The four men -- Jerome Finnigan, Keith Herrera, Thomas Sherry and Carl Suchocki -- allegedly ran a robbery ring that preyed on drug dealers and ordinary citizens alike. The officers have pleaded not guilty.

Prior to being hit with criminal charges, the officers had been sued in federal court for conducting searches without warrants. Plaintiffs alleged the officers stole money and jewelry and framed people for crimes they did not commit.

The alleged misconduct could force prosecutors to drop more than 100 cases in which the officers were involved.

With the four men facing charges, four additional officers were stripped of their police powers. The female officer to be charged today was among that second group, sources said.
It sure is easier to be a corrupt cop in a town where there's gun control. We wonder if most of this preying on innocent Chicago citizens would have gone on if citizens in Chicago could have defended themselves. No word yet from the Dean of corrupt Chicago cops William Hanhardt.
