The same family embroiled in the city's Hired Truck scandal has a member tied up in another trucking scheme, according to a federal indictment. The Roti family has four generations of excellence.
Marianne Fabiano -- a great-niece of the late Ald. Fred Roti and great-granddaughter of Prohibition-era mob boss Bruno Roti Sr. -- was indicted with two others for allegedly bilking millions of dollars from a foreign shipping company.
In four years, they scammed more than $4.6 million from the company by using falsified invoices, according to the charges. The three made it look like local trucking companies under their control were transporting containers in the area for Zim America Israeli Shipping Co., the indictment says. Checks often were mailed to home addresses of relatives of Fabiano and co-defendant Frank Butera, including to Fabiano's parents.
Zim America is a worldwide shipping company headquartered in Israel, with a division in Schiller Park.
