The Chicago Tribune has this front page story on nepotism in Cook County government:
Interim Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele said Wednesday that her son was the best person to replace her on the board, seeking to add a new chapter to the rich Chicago tradition of politicians pulling their children up the ranks.
and:
Her son, Robert, 45, is a community outreach manager for the Park District, where he has worked for five years. Before that, he ran an industrial development non-profit group on the West Side and helped lead Chicago's empowerment zone program.
Robert Steele said he knows the commissioner district well and has worked with many community leaders. He said "20 years of listening to my mom at the kitchen table" also qualified him for the job. "I've been around city politics most of my life," Robert Steele said.
Steele, who makes more than $66,000 in his Park District job, filed for bankruptcy in January. He said the bankruptcy resulted from "personal issues" that he didn't want to discuss. He said it has been resolved and the public should not be concerned.
They have different standards of "success" in Cook county.
