The federal government has reduced the amount of scholarship money for needy students in 2006, even though college tuition is rising, the College Board reports. It's funny, our major universities promote Marxism but they want to raise tuition beyond CPI every year.As you can see, they don't care about the "children".
Although the average price of a year at a public university has been rising about 6%, or about $700, annually for the past five years, the federal government last academic year reduced the amount of money it handed out to low-income students in the form of Pell grants by an average of $120. The nation's biggest need-based financial-aid program saved taxpayers $900 million by trimming its average award to $2,474. Data for 2006 are not yet available.
Colleges also reduced the percentage of financial aid they dedicated solely to needy students and increased the percentage for scholarships for students with good grades or test scores, the College Board reported. However, the author of the report, Skidmore College economist Sandy Baum, could not immediately say whether the total dollars that schools committed to need-based financial aid had also fallen.
