EAST HARTFORD -- Nine female students were arrested Thursday morning following a fight at the high school that resulted in injuries to a teacher who tried to break up the skirmish.Great moments in public education.
The teacher, who was not identified, was taken for treatment at a walk-in clinic after being kicked or punched, according to Superintendent Marion Martinez, who said the teacher then was sent home for the rest of the day.
Hugo Benettieri, an East Hartford police spokesman, said the names of the students could not be released because the girls range in age from 15 to 17.
He said they all face charges of breach of peace and assault and that the two girls who started the fight also are charged with second-degree riot because their actions caused a risk of public alarm.
