Feds Raid Cook County highway department

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
As part of a broadening federal investigation, FBI agents spent Monday afternoon combing through hiring records at the Cook County Highway Department -- including in the office of a supervisor who used to be a Chicago alderman.

The visit marks the second time in as many weeks that the department -- where former Ald. William Krystiniak oversees hiring -- has been a focus of federal agents' attention.

A highway department supervisor earlier told the Sun-Times that he was coached by Krystiniak about how to change test scores for employees with political clout.

Gerald Nichols -- the suspended patronage chief for former County Board President John Stroger -- came up through the highway department and wielded considerable clout there.

What will the G raid next in Cook County?
