Feds demand medical examiner's hiring data

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
The federal probe into Cook County hiring practices now includes the Cook County medical examiner's office, officials confirmed Sunday.

A federal subpoena seeking hiring records dating to 1997 was served two weeks ago at the medical examiner's office, 2121 W. Harrison, officials said.

The subpoena was delivered as part of a sweep by federal agents of multiple county offices, including county hospitals and the juvenile detention center. At each stop, agents demanded records on hiring practices.

Additionally, agents spent 12 hours combing through county hiring records and retrieving data from computers in the county's Human Resources Department.
Would national health care become one big patronage operation like Cook County government?
