Strike shuts down Detroit Public Schools

The Detriot News reports:
With attendance limited by an eight-day teacher strike and no immediate help from the courts, Detroit Public Schools announced they will be closed to students today and remain shut until further notice.

The decision, made Tuesday by Superintendent William Coleman III, came hours after Wayne County Circuit Judge Susan D. Borman withheld her decision on whether to order teachers back to the classrooms. Negotiations are to continue today.

"We are hopeful that we will reach an agreement with the (Detroit Federation of Teachers) soon. We regret any inconvenience caused to our parents and students," Lekan Oguntoyinbo, district spokesman, said in a statement.
Great moments in public education. We say if those teachers think they are underpaid for what they do,try and get a better paying teacher's job in the private sector. We doubt many of them could.
