Fans rush to score 'Madden'

The Detriot Free Press reports:
Video game fans have had their preorders in since May.

They've been talking smack and discussing strategy all year with their friends.

Today, the sun rises on another installment in the "Madden" NFL video game franchise, easily the best-selling series in the history of video games -- and an obsession for players across the state and around the country.

More than 50 million copies have been sold to date -- dwarfing the run of many popular movies. And the games have won everything from critical acclaim to an exclusive NFL contract that makes them the only football games with real players and teams. The "Madden" series has a one-of-a-kind place at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and had a one-off special this month on ESPN.

The game occupies all six spots on Amazon.com's top preorders list this week (one for each platform it's available on). And it consistently places in the top 10 games sold nationally every year.
What better proof that video games are real competitors to DVD's and CD's ?
