Calling in Sick at Port Authority

The Star-Ledger reports:
On an average day, more than 11 percent of the Port Authority Police Department's 1,500-member force fails to report for duty, citing sickness or injury. That means 171 officers miss work each day, most because of work-related injuries, data the agency provided The Star-Ledger show.

If those numbers seem excessive, they are not as bad as those last fall when the absentee rate hovered around 13 percent.

Since then, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials have tried to correct the problem, with some success.
Great moments in government.
