Detriot Votes to Name Tunnel After John Conyers

The Detriot News reports:
Drivers soon could travel from Detroit to Windsor via the John Conyers Jr. Tunnel.

The Detroit City Council passed a resolution in an 8-0 vote Wednesday, urging the renaming of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel in honor of the 77-year-old congressman.

Conyers' biggest supporter introduced the resolution: his wife, Councilwoman Monica Conyers.

"He is truly a great man," Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said.

Conyers, who is serving his 20th term in the U.S. House, is one of the 13 founding members of the Congressional Black Caucus formed in 1969 and is the second most senior member of the House.

The resolution now goes to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick's office was noncommittal Wednesday.
In the 1950's Detriot used to be one of America's largest cities. You get the drift here.Anyway, the cult of personality lives on in the declining city of Detriot. If the Democrats win,I'm sure Conyers will provide hours of entertainment for Republicans as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committe. Is naming a tunnel after a living politicians covered in McCain-Feingold?
