Women And Osteoporosis

The Detriot News reports:
In the United States, 10 million people have osteoporosis, and 34 million have low bone density, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF). Eighty percent of those with osteoporosis are women, and half of all women older than 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetimes.

And though the disease typically affects women who are post-menopausal, some of its root causes lie in youth. By age 30, a woman's bones reach their peak strength and density. A woman can help stave off osteoporosis and its often debilitating effects later in life by building strong bones during her youth and maintaining them through adulthood.
