The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Prodded by more than a dozen Democratic ward bosses determined to stop Ald. Todd Stroger (8th), Rep. Danny Davis said Thursday he would be interested in running for Cook County Board president if a stroke forces John Stroger to retire.
Davis stressed he's "not necessarily looking for another job" and that he hasn't been "beating the bushes trying to generate support." In fact, he said he hopes the elder Stroger recovers enough to return to office and remain on the November ballot.
But if, as expected, John Stroger is not well enough to return, Davis said he would be interested in replacing him.
Cook County, which has lost more population than any county in the nation between 2000 and 2005,really needs someone who reflects its' values. Here's an embrace of socialism by none other than
Danny Davis:
"I'm a member of DSA," Davis said, during a previous telephone interview. "[Democratic Socialists] are basically no different than a lot of the people I know."
Davis will be closer to home so he can give
keynote addresses to local socialists.
