Hispanic Drop Out Rate Concerns Chicago Schools

CBS TV Chicago reports:
(Medill News Service) CHICAGO Hispanics are dropping out of Chicago high schools at a greater rate than they are at other area schools, statewide and nationally -- a continuation of a decade-long trend.

Chicago Public Schools had a 12.7 percent Hispanic dropout rate in its high schools during 2004-2005, according to a survey released this month by the Illinois State Board of Education. The state's average for Hispanics was 8.3 percent; the national average was 8.8 percent.

CPS saw 4,582 Hispanics quit school in 2004-2005, out of a total of 36,106 Hispanic students. There were 13,468 total dropouts out of a student body of about 111,000.
Another great Chicago story.
