Cell Phone Ban in Public Schools Causes Outrage

After a crackdown on cell phones in New York City schools, parents and civil rights advocates are steamed.

Parents are worried that they won't be able to get ahold of their kids in case of major emergencies.

And civil rights-minded folks don't like the spontaneous searches and seizures that have transformed ordinary schools into tiny police states.

"We talk about schools as prisons in this city," said one parent, Cecilia Blewer.
Public education doesn't work in New York City.
