Expensive Party For New York Transit Strike Union Leader

The New York Post reports:
Blue-collar shirts were traded in for blue suede shoes last night as transit union chief Roger Toussaint threw himself an incarceration celebration - and cut a rug on the dance floor - in preparation for turning himself in to the big house on Monday.

The big bash raised the ire of some in the Transport Workers Union. They questioned who paid for the party when workers were laboring under $2.5 million in strike fines.

"Now I'm going on vacation," a surprisingly jovial Toussaint declared to the crowd of more than 100 supporters gathered at the Midtown offices of the powerful health-care union Local 1199.

Toussaint and his fans were treated to an elaborate spread of Spanish and Italian food on balloon-adorned tables. DJ Willove mixed reggae from the TWU boss' native Trinidad with electronic and pop tunes that lured the big man onto the dance floor.
Being a powerful union leader in New York is the ticket to the high life. You can shut down a whole city and the politicians don't really care.
