Chicago becomes An Even Bigger Conflict of Interest Town

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Mary Ann McMorrow, the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court of Illinois, announced her retirement Wednesday and startled some legal observers by announcing that she and her colleagues have voted to replace her with state Appellate Justice Anne Burke.

Burke is the wife of Chicago City Council Finance Chairman Ald. Edward Burke (14th).
For those who don't know,Ed Burke runs a powerful law firm which has many corporate clients that do business with the city of Chicago.Ed Burke also slates all the judges in Cook County.Ed Burke also is Chicago's most powerful Alderman. As you can see,the words "conflict of interest" mean little in Chicago. In a state with thousands of lawyers couldn't they have picked someone else for Supreme Court justice?
