The stroke suffered by Cook County Board President John Stroger has left him with impaired and sometimes slurred speech, and his recovery will "take a long time," Stroger's son said Wednesday, amid word he has emerged as a favorite to replace his father. That's the Cook County Way, run the county like a family business. No wonder Cook County's losing population.
Two weeks after Stroger was transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago to begin the long recovery that will determine whether he remains on the Democratic ticket, Ald. Todd Stroger (8th) said there has been no improvement in his father's condition.
The alderman said it would be July before his father decides whether he's well enough to serve.
