CTA union plans to vote on authorizing strike

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
CTA employees represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 are set to take a strike authorization vote on Monday, union president Darrell Jefferson said.

The union, which includes bus operators and mechanics, says the CTA has violated provisions in its contract, which expired in December 2003 and is currently stuck in arbitration. Specifically, the union cited disputes dealing with bus operator scheduling, injured workers returning to light duty and how maintenance workers are assigned to jobs.
