Cook County Population Loss In a League By Itself

The Brookings Institution has a new population study out.On page 16 of the study, the 15 largest counties are presented with some interesting data. From 2000 to 2004,Cook County,Il. lost the most population with loss of 49,690.Is it the cold weather, the high taxes, the union problems,or the leadership of the Daley brothers that drives population away? You've got to hand it to Mayor Daley for saying there is some sort of comeback to Chicago when the exact opposite is going on.One area where Cook County is in a league of its own is the loss of white population,no other county lost over a 100,000 whites. But,Cook lost 144,842 whites in this short time span. The urban lovers keep telling us how whites are moving back to central cities like Chicago.I guess it's the exact opposite.
