Cook County Board Election Gets Racial

Crain's Chicago Business reports on the election contest of Democrats for the Cook County Board Chairman position. The incumbent African-American Board Chairman John Stroger's is running against Forrest Claypool :
Marj Halprin, Mr. Claypool’s campaign manager, said the large donor has "nothing to gain financially” by backing Mr. Claypool “but wants to see county government run better.” In comparison, Mr. Stroger took more than $650,000 in donations recently from county contractors and employees, she emphasized.

Mr. Stroger’s spokeswoman had a different take. Mr. Claypool’s acceptance of so much money from a handful of “white men” conflicts with his claim of reflecting diversity in his campaign, she said. As for the source of Mr. Stroger’s money, “Let them say what they want,” the spokeswoman said.
Are the Democrats in Cook County one big happy family?
