Can Government Protect You From Public Washrooms?

John Kass reports:
With government insinuating itself into every aspect of our lives, why can't it do something useful--like figuring out how taxpayers can exit a washroom at work without having to touch anything?

There are untold gazillions of bacteria on washroom door handles, perhaps even the flesh-eating kind. And there are gazillions of politicians promising to use government muscle to protect us from everything, from cigars to potato chips to uncooked pork hocks to global warming.

But I've never heard one politician promise to protect us from something serious, like washroom doors.

"I haven't been able to find anything at the Centers for Disease Control yet," said Melaney Arnold, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health, when I called to find some government proposals dealing with the washroom door issue.

"I think we're mostly on our own," she said. "We encourage people to wash their hands."
Another gem from Kass.
