Chicago leads the state as the city with the most manufacturing plants, but many operations are leaving the city. The Illinois Manufacturing Directory found that 57 plants left the city last year. In past five years, 453 plants have moved out of Chicago. We know no better example of the erosion of Blue city America than the corrupt city of Chicago. The only question is:how many more factories are going to leave Chicago in the next five years??
“One reason is that the cost to do business is much higher,” Dubin said. “Manufacturers are just moving further out where the cost of doing business is lower.”
Chicago is home to 3,386 plants, or 15 percent of the state’s manufacturing industry. Elk Grove Village is second with 646 plants.
Manufacturers are also abandoning Cook County. Of the 106 plants that left Cook County in 2005, half had been located in Chicago.
