An Indiana University admissions official said an upset parent of a rejected student called and said, "We just got this letter and I opened it and it said we weren't admitted."We predict the higher tuitions go the more parents think they are entitled to open their mouths about everything.
And at Purdue University, a few parents have tried to meet with counselors without the students present, reminding officials they're paying the bills.
Similar scenarios are being played out at universities nationwide as baby boomer parents send their children off to college.
These "helicopter parents," a term believed to have been coined by schoolteachers in the early 1990s, are hovering over their older children in increasing numbers. And it's a trend that could hurt their children's growth.
