Ex-alderman convicted of ghost-payrolling wants law license back

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
A former short-term Chicago alderman convicted in a ghost-payrolling scheme appealed to the Illinois Supreme Court Wednesday to reinstate his law license amid objections from a state lawyer disciplinary agency.

Joseph Martinez-Fraticelli, a former employee of Ald. Edward M. Burke's (14th) law firm, received salary and benefits for seven years of nonexistent City Hall work. His lawyer, Jack Toporek, said there's "no question'' Martinez-Fraticelli has accepted responsibility, paid restitution and rehabilitated himself through church work.
