New world order: Toyota to top GM?

The Detriot Free Press reports:
Ever since the dawn of the auto industry, Michigan has been home to the world's biggest maker of cars and trucks. Barring a shocking reversal, that streak appears set to end in 2006.

Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it intends to produce 9.06 million vehicles next year, a level that would surpass the expected output of General Motors Corp. for the first time. GM doesn't make similar predictions, but industry consultant CSM Worldwide forecast that GM would make 8.92 million vehicles next year.

Toyota's rise to dominance has been predicted ever since it unseated Ford Motor Co. for the No. 2 spot in 2003. But some analysts thought GM might have a few more years at the top, a position it has maintained for more than 70 years.
How wrong Karl Marx was,the big doesn't always stay on top.
