The case against Kwanzaa is based on its founder, Maulana Karenga (nee Ron Everitt), a black nationalist who created a group called US (for United Slaves) Organization in the turbulent 1960s. Karenga invented Kwanzaa in 1966 as a replacement for Judaism (he claimed the six days of the creation story is a myth) and Christianity (he claimed the resurrection, heaven and hell were myths, too).
Karenga's mission was interrupted for four years starting in 1971 by a prison term for stripping and brutally beating two black women. So much for unity.
