The Drive To Remove J.Edgar Hoover

Robert Novak has a stunning story on how conservative Judge Laurence H. Silberman has called for removing J.Edgar Hoover's name from the FBI building:
"In my view," Silberman said, "it is as if the Defense Department were named for Aaron Burr. Liberals and conservatives should unite to support legislation to accomplish this repudiation of a very sad chapter in American history." That concluded his speech, but it was not followed by overwhelming applause. Nor was there volunteered support for his mission.
Hoover used his power to stay in office and backmail many important people. That's the danger with a monopoly. You'll want to read this whole thing. The irony is Silberman is the kind of judge that many modern day liberals wouldn't have wanted on the Supreme Court.
