UAW bosses say Delphi deal unlikely

The Detroit News reports what could happen if no deal is reached:
A Delphi strike would be most damaging to GM, which accounts for nearly half of its business. GM, whose auto business has lost more than $4 billion in North America this year, is pegging its comeback hopes on a lineup of new full-size SUVs next year and cannot afford a hitch in its supply chain.

In 1998, a two-month strike at two Delphi plants virtually shut down GM and cost the automaker billions. But the strike question will remain open in coming weeks as Delphi and its unions negotiate.
