The New Suburbanism and the Decline of Downtown

Joel Kotkin writes another great one on the decline of central cities:
Since 1950,more than 90 percent of all growth in the U.S. metropolitan areas has been in the suburbs.As a consequence,the percentage of people living in cities over 500,000 people dropped from 17.5 percent in 1950 to barely 12 cent in 1990.
