Four of the top five highest-paid Teamsters officials last year were based in the Chicago area, according to an annual report released Thursday by Teamsters for a Democratic Union, a small reform group within the union.Special workers.
All four earned more than Teamsters President James P. Hoffa, whose annual salary in 2004 was $251,529.
"The union is a movement of workers, not a road to the upper class for a few people," said Ken Paff, national organizer of TDU, which represents approximately 10,000 of the Teamster's 1.4 million members. "The salaries of these officials should be somewhat in line with what members of the union make, not five or six times more."
