Even Doctors can't Afford to live Here

The L.A.Times reports that even if you are a doctor you can't afford to buy a house in Ventura County,California:
Ventura County's affordable housing crisis has gotten so bad that doctors are now included among those who can't afford to live comfortably in the verdant coastal region. And without greater supply and more housing options created for all income levels, it will become increasingly difficult to staff critical professions, experts say.

This grim assessment was delivered Thursday during a daylong housing conference titled "What's in it for me? Why should I care about workforce housing?" The fourth annual event was coordinated by Cabrillo Economic Development Corp., Ventura County Economic Development Assn. and Housing Opportunities Made Easier, an advocacy group.

"Lo and behold, anyone who makes less than $100,000 a year, in terms of housing, is in trouble just like a low-paid farm worker," said Oxnard City Councilman Andres Herrera, a farmworker's son who grew up in substandard housing.
Land use restrictions and other supply restrictions have zoned people out.All these predictions that California will continue to grow in population like the rest of the nation are probably not going to pan out.
