Chicago Public Schools Don't Prepare Students

The Chicago Tribune has an editorial on just how bad Chicago public education is:
A troubling number of graduates from Chicago public high schools are so poorly prepared that they not only are unable to get into four-year colleges, but end up spending most of their freshman year--and sometimes beyond--in community colleges taking remedial courses.

An astonishing portion, 95 percent, of CPS graduates entering City Colleges of Chicago last year failed to place into college-level math courses, 2004 City Colleges data show. Three-quarters had to take remedial writing and reading courses.
The great urban comeback?
