Dimitri Vassilaros explains some of the action plan voted on at the NEA convention:

items include fighting indoor air pollution, electing "pro-public education" congressional candidates, pushing for more collective bargaining, defending racial quotas (euphemistically called affirmative action), investigating the establishment of affordable housing for union members, pushing for an exit strategy in Iraq, proposing debt cancellation for underdeveloped countries, teaching children the "significant history of labor unions," developing a comprehensive strategy supporting homosexuality, exposing health problems associated with fragrance chemicals, studying the feasibility of a boycott of Gallo wines, and to prove that no topic is too trivial or inane -- exploring alternatives to using latex balloons and gloves at NEA functions.

Who said the NEA was about educating children?
