Fiscal Crisis in Detriot

The Detriot Free Press has the continuing drama in Detriot:
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's administration says to protect the public's safety, it won't cut anywhere near the 800 police officers and firefighters that would be necessary to balance the budget.

But that leaves city officials and taxpaying residents staring down the barrel of a growing deficit and facing the elimination of other essential city services. Because for every month the mayor doesn't lay off police officers and firefighters, the city racks up a $5-million bill it can't afford.
Detriot maybe the leader in what some cities may face years from now.
