Detriot prepares to lay off 600 street cops

Detriot is losing population which means taxing, the fewer residents, becomes more problematic.Look where the budget cuts are coming from in the police force:
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick told the police union recently that the layoffs would come from the police officer ranks, and not from the sergeants and lieutenants union, said Paul Stewart, vice president of the Detroit Police Officers Association.

That could result in fewer officers on patrol in the city, which has one of the highest murder rates in the nation -- 384 homicides last year.
