Can GOP peel off the black vote?

Derrick Jackson's piece in the Boston Globe takes the Republicans to task for:

fighting against affirmative action at the University of Michigan, and being accused of interfering with voting rights in both the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

You can say a lot of things about the Republican party but fighting affirmative action isn't one them.George Bush and the Republican hierarchy wished the University of Michigan cases never existed.Who could forget that Reagan's appointee, Sandra Day O'Conner, wrote the majority opinion.
