Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes

And you thought you really owned your house.Guess again. There are Supreme Court decisions and then there are Supreme Court decisions. Today, 5 justices went along with theft of private property under the strange notion of eminent domain. As we can see from the decision, there’s no holding back government from taking property. Constitutions, which are supposed to limit government power over time, mean little or nothing. According to the decision, any time some government official feels a piece of property could bring in more tax revenue: a taking of property can occur. The Constitution really provides no check and balance since no U.S.Supreme Court justice has ever been impeached and removed from office in all of U.S. history. Maybe, in the future, New Haven, Connecticut or Evanston, Illinois will decide to seize their local universities’ parcels of land because those parcels aren’t being taxed right now. What would prevent that according to this decision??Washington Post
