At least the New York Times is consistent. They are for statist intervention in most elements of American life.Calling the takings of private property
a welcome vindication of cities' ability to act in the public interest.
But,the Times is also good of enough to tell us they themselves have been beneficiares in the stolen property game:
The New York Times benefited from eminent domain in clearing the land for the new building it is constructing opposite the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Maybe the Times promised some important New York politicians good press for the their land deal?Maybe you understand why Walter Duranty fit right in at the New York Times. But,the Times says worry not:
New London's development plan may hurt a few small property owners, who will, in any case, be fully compensated. But many more residents are likely to benefit if the city can shore up its tax base and attract badly needed jobs.
Fully compensated according to what non-market forces determine.
