NYT editorial against guns

The New York Times writes editorials in a strange place,a place you can't own a gun unless you're a police officer.Today's rant against guns start with:
Timorous as ever before the gun lobby, Congress is preparing a wholesale sellout to the firearms industry that would bar injured citizens and communities from suing irresponsible gun manufacturers and dealers for legitimate damages. A House bill moving toward passage would scuttle a dozen court cases and allow no repetition of the $2.5 million settlement deservedly won by families victimized in the Washington-area sniper shootings.
Did the CEO's of gun manufactures pull the trigger in the Washington sniper shootings?Hasn't the NYT editorial board heard of a thing in British Common law called "proximate causation"?According to the NYT's logic, we should blame the NYT for 30 million deaths in the Soviet Union during the early 1930's because of the reporting of Walter Duranty.New York Times
