Two-thirds of the vendors at this year’s Taste of Chicago had health code violations. City inspectors logged more than 160 citations. Over half were for improper temperatures, and more than 800 pounds of food were discarded for unsafe temperatures. One chicken truck alone tossed 210 pounds on the first day. Food was prepped on a folding table behind the hedges. Sinks backed up. Garbage overflowed. This is the festival @ChicagosMayor said “reflects the heart and soul of Chicago through our people, our culture and our extraordinary culinary talent.” H/T @WBEZ @Suntimes
