FBI Director Comey Calls Agency’s Lack of Diversity a ‘Crisis’ .Chief says agents are now 83% white; wants to reverse trend

The Wall Street Journal reports:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is facing a crisis—its agents have become less diverse over the past decade and are now 83% white, the agency’s chief said Wednesday.

FBI Director James Comey made the comments in a speech at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla., to an audience of security officials for historically black colleges.

“We have a crisis in the FBI and it is this: Slowly but steadily over the last decade or more, the percentage of special agents in the FBI who are white has been growing,’’ he said. He didn’t say why he believed that had occurred.

According to statistics from March, the FBI’s intelligence analysts are 78% white, and its overall workforce is 69% white.
No word yet on whether Director Comey is worried about the lack of diversity at the EEOC.
